Monmouth Cemetery Association has an annual meeting every June. Open to the public.

The 2025 MCA Annual Meeting was held on June 18, 2025, at 7 pm at Cumston Hall in Monmouth, ME.

Attendance: Mary Turner, Hugh Lemaster, Christina Howard, Cody Roy, David Shaw, Ron Cook

6 pm – Field Visit to East Monmouth 

 

Annual Meeting – 7 pm – Call to order – Mary 


Treasurer’s report 

  • $15,737 in our savings. 

  • The town allocates us $14,000 each year for expenses (mowing, upkeep, etc.)

  • Motion to accept report: Hugh. Second: Mary. Motion Passes.

 

Cremation Section – 5’x5’ lots, (back to back, so 10’ wide rows), with 4’ walkways

  • $4,500 – Engineer – Jim Coffin – to survey boundary markers (might be booking 2 months out)

  • $5,000 – Fournier’s to take down trees on new cremation section down to the gully 

  • $35,000 + $7,000 – Brandon’s quote to take down the trees + stumps ($7,000), grade the 1st section and build roads, move electric wire, seed grass, and erosion control. (Booking 2-3 months out)

  • ?? Survey to lay out the lots – Jim Coffin?

  • Motion to tentatively have Brandon to take down the trees, take out stumps, and fill the holes and have Jim Coffin survey, up to $20,000. Hugh Motions, Dave S. seconds. Motion passes.

 

Gerber section (across from East Monmouth Cemetery) – to get it up and running 25 graves with roadway. 10’x14’ plots (four full burials, corner stones) (20’ wide, 2 rows of plots between roads)

  • $5,500 – Engineer Jim Coffin Engineering to lay plots

  • $13,000 Brandon to put in roads

  • Motion to put $20,000 towards getting the Gerber section ready to sell lots. Hugh makes motion, Dave S. seconds. Motion passes.

Current Burial Rates: 

3 Lot Plot (includes 4 corner markers)

Resident $1500, Non-Resident $3000

 

Cremains Sections: (3×3, 1 flat stone with 2 names, 2 urns can be buried here)

Resident: $1500, Non-resident: $3000

  • Motion to increase the 3 Lot Plot price to $1,500 for residents, $3,000 for non-residents. Hugh motions, Dave seconds. Motion passes.

 

Fence @ Pease Hill. 

  • We last updated/voted on the amount to spend: $3,000. 

 

Restoration of Stones

  • Neck Cemetery – leaning stones

  • Pease Hill Stone – Hugh to ask Collettes if it’s fixed.


Water Tank for Ridge Cemetery

  • Ron makes a motion to spend up to $999 for a water tank. Hugh seconds. Motion passes.

  • Mary to go purchase one ASAP, at Audettes, charge the Cemetery account.

  • Cody will go to the town to ask if we have money left to spend.

 

Sexton Stipend: 

  • $25 fee for sales, measuring/marking lots, etc.

  • Hugh makes motion to initiate stipend for sexton. Dave S seconds. Motion passes.

 

Treasurer Stipend: 

  • Stipend of $600 per year for treasurer’s duties. Paid at Christmas time.

  • Dave S. makes motion to initiate stipend for treasurer. Hugh seconds. Motion passes.

 

Election of officers: 

President – Hugh Lemaster

Vice President – Mary Turner

Secretary – Christina Howard

Treasurer – Cody Roy

All executive members will be on the bank account.

Hugh makes a motion for election of officers per the slate above, with all officers on the bank account. Mary seconds. Motion passes.

 

Next meeting: September 17, 2025 6pm – Treasurer’s report 1st so Cody can leave early.
